May 20, 2011

Chiang Mai will be hosting the International Horticultural Exposition: Royal Flora Ratchaphruek from 14 December 2011 to 14 March 2012 (previously was to start on 9 November 2011). It is being held to mark three auspicious occasions: His Majesty’s 84th birthday this December, Her Majesty’s 80th birthday next August, and HRH Crown Prince Majavajiralongkorn’s 60th birthday next July. The 99-day event, which will involve botanists, exhibits and agricultural experts from 30 countries, will be held at the Ratchaphruek Royal Park in Chiang Mai.

The Royal Flora Ratchaphruek 2011 focuses on the “Greenitude: Reducing Global Warming to Save Planet Earth and Improve the Quality of Life”. The event will feature activities and seminars, including a summit on rubber trees, the production of silk, orchids, tropical fruits and decorative flowers, in addition to contests involving 51 types of vegetables and plants. There will also be a 40-metre-tall Ferris wheel called Giant Flora Wheel as well as a theme park called Imagination Light Gardens and a children’s knowledge park called Kids’ Eco Park.
