International Car Free Day is an event celebrated every 22nd September in which people around the world are encouraged to leave their cars at home and instead ride a train, bus, bicycle or walk. In Thailand, a monthly event called Bangkok Car Free Sunday has been organized to encourage people to use bicycles instead of cars. Apparently there are already 7 million cars registered in Bangkok which is 4.4 times beyond the city’s road capacity. If more people use a bicycle to get around, then Bangkok might have less pollution. People will also be a lot healthier. As part of the celebration of International Car Free Day in Bangkok, the BTS have announced that on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd September 2012, cyclists will be able to use the sky train for free. The offer is only for two days and between the hours of 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.
