Some good news for people who need to go to Suvaranbhumi Airport from Southern Bangkok. Starting from 1st September, Bus A3 will operate between BTS Udon Suk and the airport. Stops along the way include Bang Na intersection, Central Bang Na, Lotus KM8 and King Kaew intersection. Tickets are only 30 Baht. Operating time is 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Strange that the route begins at Udomsuk, you’d think it would make more sense to start at Onnut.
It duplicates van 552, which also plies the route, for most of the way, though vans only have space enough for light luggage. Cost is much the same but vans are, I suspect, more frequent and will stop by request at regular bus stops.

I took the A3 yellow bus from BKK airport last week for 30 Baht to Udom Suk BTS station.

The journey took just under one hour.

The bus stop was easy to find outside level 1 of the airport terminal where a bus was waiting.

Pity it does not run on to On Nut BTS station though, where the 552 minivan terminates. I took the BTS for only 10 Baht to get to On Nut from Udom Suk.

This is a very useful and economical service for visitors and needs to be publicised more by the BMTA. There were only 3 other passengers on board when I travelled on the bus and they all appeared to be airport workers !

I am reading comments that the A3 service has already been cancelled since December 2015. Can you confirm?

Yes, looks like BMTA cancelled the service due to lack of demand. It was always a non-starter to begin from Udom Suk.
As others have said, best alternative if you only have light luggage is 552 van from Onnut. It can be flagged down at bus stops along the route to Swampy but be aware that destination is often not marked in English, so look for the route number, 552, which is marked in small figures.
