New overnight express train to Chiang Mai

A new night express train between Bangkok and Nong Khai was launched during November 2016. These trains are using the same Chinese made carriages that were unveiled recently on the Bangkok-Nong Khai, Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani, and Bangkok-Hat Yai routes. Once the dual tracks have been laid, the journey time is expected to be cut by three hours.

The new train has nine “Air-Conditioned Second Class Day & Night Coaches” (180 berths), one “Air-Conditioned Second Class Day & Night Coach with Handicap Facility” (18 normal berths + 2 special berths), one Air-Conditioned First Class Day & Night Coach” (12 berths), and one “Air-Conditioned Restaurant Car” (32 seats).

TIMETABLE: The overnight express train leaves Bangkok Station (Hua Lamphong) at 7 p.m. and arrives in Chiang Mai at 7:00 a.m. The return journey leaves Chiang Mai at 7:00 p.m. and arrives in Bangkok at 7 a.m. the following morning.

2nd Class: 881 Baht (lower bunk), 791 Baht (upper bunk)
1st Class: 1,453 Baht (lower bunk), 1,253 Baht (upper bunk), and 1,953 Baht (room)
