The Ministry of Commerce has listed Tha Sadet Market in the northeastern province of Nong Khai as one of the “must-see” markets in Thailand. The market will be promoted as a major tourist attraction to generate income for the local community. Many unique products of Nong Khai are on sale in this market, such as consumer goods and handicrafts.
The project promoting the country’s must-see markets is in line with the Government’s policy of establishing community markets, both for general products and those unique to each province, in order to serve as distribution channels for local traders. The Ministry of Commerce has found that Tha Sadet Market has great potential and is an attractive market for both Thai and foreign tourists, especially those from neighboring countries. Tha Sadet Market is located along the Mekong River in the town of Nong Khai. There is a pier for people to cross the Mekong River to Lao PDR.
Nong Khai province is regarded as a gateway to Vientiane. From this province, people may cross the Mekong River to Laos via the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge. It is also easy to travel from Nong Khai to Bangkok, as Nong Khai is only 60 kilometers from Udon Thani Airport. These transport networks will contribute to local economic activities.
