Due to danger of flash floods, parts of Erawan Waterfall are closed for swimming

Due to heavy rain over much of Thailand recently, the level of rivers are extremely high with many places already flooded, or in danger of being flooded. Officials at Erawan National Park in Kanchanaburi announced on their Facebook page this morning that they have closed parts of the waterfall as its too dangerous to swim. The only place you will be able to swim are the waterfalls in the two lower levels. However, more heavy rain is expected this week. So, be careful wherever you are in Thailand.

Flashfloods from upriver can turn a gentle flow into a raging current with logs within minutes. The best advice is that if you see the water suddenly change colour, you should get out quickly and go to high ground. Tourists have died before at waterfalls in Thailand even when it wasn’t raining.
