Every year, a boat trip is organized to visit nine temples and shrines in Nonthaburi province. This is mainly of interest to Thai Buddhists as a way to make merit. Nine is an auspicious number and it is fashionable these days to go on trips to worship at nine different temples in a row. Although I am not a Buddhist myself, I do like boat trips and exploring new places. And a fee of 20 Baht won’t exactly break the bank.
The boat trips will take place on the following Sundays in February: 11th, 18th and 25th, and also one Sunday in March on the 4th. The starting point for this trip is in front of the Museum of Nonthaburi. This is the old city hall and also the location of the last pier of the Chao Phraya River Express boat. Registration is between 7:00am and 9:30am. Go early as there will be literally hundreds of people. But even still, there should be room as there are multiple boats. I went last year and had a lot of fun. Visit Thailand Photo Map for pictures of my trip as well as GPS coordinates of the places that we visited.
