The most popular national parks in Thailand over the new year holiday

Over the recent new year holiday, a staggering 995,271 local and international tourists visited national parks around Thailand. Every year the number seems to be going up. This year again the numbers were helped by opening the parks for free to Thai tourists and also the cool weather. The following were Top 10 most popular national parks in Thailand during the five day new year holiday between 30 December 2017 and 3 January 2018.

  1. Khao Yai เขาใหญ่ (96,592)
  2. Doi Inthanon ดอยอินทนนท์ (55,599)
  3. Hat Nopparat Thara – Mu Koh Phi Phi หาดนพรัตน์ธารา – หมู่เกาะพีพี (41,111)
  4. Phu Rua, Loei ภูเรือ (31,876)
  5. Phu Hin Rongkla, Phetchabun ภูหินร่องกล้า (30,102)
  6. Erawan, Kanchanaburi เอราวัณ (29,926)
  7. Khao Laem Ya-Kho Samet, Rayong เขาแหลมหญ้า – หมู่เกาะเสม็ด (28,190)
  8. Pha Taem, Ubon Ratchathani ผาแต้ม (27,854)
  9. Phu Chi Fah, Chiang Rai ภูชี้ฟ้า (27,162)
  10. Nam Tok Priew, Chanthaburi น้ำตกพลิ้ว (25,664)

You can look at this in two ways. Either as a bucket list of places for you to visit this year, or a reminder as to which parks to avoid during any of the upcoming national holidays. Khao Yai national park is certainly one of my favourites, despite the high admission price. But I would strongly urge you to avoid during any long weekend.
