All national museums and historical parks in Thailand are free from 2-8 April to celebrate Thai Heritage Preservation week
Thai Heritage Preservation week is being held from 2nd to 8th April 2018 to celebrate the birthday anniversary of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on 2nd April, which is also observed as Thailand’s National Heritage Preservation Day. On this special day every year, all national museums and historical parks across Thailand are free to everyone. This includes both Thais and foreign visitors. In addition this year, if you go to one of these museums or historical parks between 3rd and 8th April 2018 wearing traditional Thai costume you are allowed to enter for free.

There are more than 20,000 historical sites museums around Thailand managed by the Fine Arts Department. Out of these, there are currently ten historical parks, with four of them registered as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

Hello, we’re coming from South Africa from the 3rd – 12th April 2018 which kind of falls in the heritage preservation week 💃🏽 … is entry only free this year if you wear Thai traditional clothing ?
Normally it is free to everyone, but this year for the first time they added that you have to wear traditional costume to get in for free. This is because of period soap opera that has gripped the nation at the moment.
Are museums going to be free again on 2nd April this year? Just one day this year? Where can I get a link of all the museums which open free on the days? Many thanks!
Only the national museums. Not all museums.
Thanks for your reply. Now I have another question! Are the national museums opening especially on that day? 2nd April is a Tuesday and usually national museums close Monday and Tuesday. Thanks
Good question. I haven’t actually seen a notice about this yet. Historical parks will be open though and free.
I also can’t get adequate info on this yet. I went last year and it was really good. But I didn’t go exactly on 2nd. I dressed up in a Lanna shirt and they let me in for free. Just trying to get into the spirit of it.
