UPDATE: The New Year holiday in Bangkok and Thailand passed very quietly with no incidents reported at all. Six home-made bombs were found and disposed of at three spots in the Lat Krabang area in eastern Bangkok early Friday morning. However, while in a taxi the other day I spotted this handy chart which I thought I would share with you (see below). As long as you can work out the distance that you want...

Flower Show & Sunday Concert at Suan Luang Rama IX Park

The 24th Flower Festival is taking place this month at Suan Luang Rama IX Park. This is one of my favourite parks on the outskirts of Bangkok. It can be found just behind Paradise Park and Seacon Square. The park is popular during early morning and late afternoon for fitness fanatics who jog around the park in the coolness of the day. It is also a great place for people who are interested in flowers. The best time to...

Christmas Tree Decorations in Bangkok

It is that time of year again when the Christmas decorations go up and the shopping malls start to play Christmas songs such as Jingle Bells and Santa’s Coming to Town. Sometimes it is difficult to believe that we are living in a Buddhist country when we see a large and brightly lit Christmas tree outside Central World Plaza and Father Christmas, though a rather thin version, on the Sky Train. Although less than 4% of the people in...
