Phra Pradaeng Songkran Festival

Just when I thought it was safe to wash the car and hang up the wet water gear....! I took the above picture this afternoon in Phra Pradaeng, a district in Western Samut Prakan. No, it wasn't the results of a time warp. For some peculiar reason, the people of Phra Pradaeng, who are mainly the descendents of the Mon people from Burma, decided to celebrate Songkran one week later than the rest of the country!

First steps in Bangkok

There is this place, hidden there, in my opposite corner of the world which deserves to be known by everybody. The only one time I heard about Bangkok was about child prostitution...I wonder how is it.First there is lights everywhere, big buildings, huge portraits of the King and the Queen. I start to understand how much I have to learn here, many things I don't understand, for example, those children near the traffic lights, selling white flowers hanged on a big stick.

In my blog the other day, I was telling you about the new mega bridge (http://www.thai-blogs.com/index.php?blog=5 title=bangkok_s_mega_bridge_updates more=1 c=1 tb=1 pb=1) which they are building across two sections of the Chao Phraya River. The bridge goes from Samut Prakan to Samut Prakan to Bangkok.

Fun at the Temple Fair

The 9 day and 9 night temple fair in Samut Prakan is coming to its end. The last day is Tuesday. If you are in this area and haven’t visited us yet then I strongly suggest you do so soon. It is an experience not to be missed. It is probably one of the biggest temple fairs in Thailand and is apparently the first recorded temple fair. As I mentioned before, it is massive as it takes place on both sides of the river. It only costs about 3 baht to cross the river in a passenger fairy. These boats leave every few minutes throughout the night. I took the above picture from the boat this evening. It is the view as we approached Phra Samut Chedi. Both sides of the river are very beautiful with many colourful lights.
